On 13th December 2023 Ethical Consumer viewed the website of Amazon.com Inc for its cotton sourcing policy. Its 2022 sustainability report was viewed.

95%+ of the company's cotton was found to be covered by a combination of the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) and other more responsibly sourced cotton. It had a target to “Source all cotton for Amazon Private Brands apparel products from more-sustainable sources by the end of 2022”. It stated, “Amazon Private Brands achieved this goal for cotton. We define more sustainable as sourced from recycled materials, from farms certified as producing organic cotton, or through the Better Cotton Initiative”. For this the company scored 40.

The company was not found to use any significant amount of recycled cotton. It was not clear how much recycled cotton it was using, other than a combination of Better Cotton, recycled, and organic. For this the company scored 0.

The company was a signatory to the Turkmen cotton pledge, and did not source cotton from Turkmenistan. For this the company scored 10.

No third-party criticisms were found in relation to the company's cotton sourcing.
